Yes!!!!! A haunting past can affect societies present day. Some people may not know that the historic past can affect what happens in our present day. Historical events can affect the way the government and even our neighbors beliefs and thoughts are today.  I myself, truly believe that everything that happens in history has a good outcome and even a bad outcome today.

On Sept 11th, 200l there was a traumatic disaster in New York. Islamic extremist high jacked several airplanes and crashed them into the twin towers in New York. More than 3,000 people were killed in this incident.  After 15 mins of the crash, one tower came crashing down and collapsed. Not to long after the second building collapsed. I believe this was a devastation to all of the U.S. This disastrous event changes the nations way of thinking like the attitudes and concerns about our safety today.

On Sept 15th, 1963, a bomb exploded in a black church right before service started. This church was used for civil rights leaders meeting location. Four girls were killed and several people were injured, There were a lot of bombings by white supremacists around this date also. After the bombing black protesters gathered around the scene and protested. State troopers were sent out to break the protesters up but that didn't go as planned .

In 2008, Barack Obama was elected president. Not only was he elected president, he was elected the first African American president. Barack Obama made a milestone for African Americans. He proved that even after racism and the inequality, for African Americans, that we can still be great and do great things. And he also proved that anybody from every different race, can be who they want to be no matter what another individual may think. Barack Obama will inspire any person of color, in the future, that they can become president too....

Overall, haunting events and even good events can affect the present. It is good to know historical events because they are good knowledge and can explain why things go the way that they do today.

  1. I completely agree that the past does greatly affect present day. I like how you used different events that have happen in the past and how these events have changed the way we function today. For example you used the attacks on September 11, 2001 as an example, then you stated "I believe this was a devastation to all of the U.S. This disastrous event changes the nations way of thinking like the attitudes and concerns about our safety today." In that statement you showed how the attacks provoked us to change things about our security so we could be safe today and in the future.

  2. It's timely and appropriate that you would use the 9/11 attacks in a blog posted on the same date years later. Could you go into more specific detail about how those actions led us to becoming the country we are today?
